Plan of publication

The Committee has appointed Prof. Giulio Conticelli as President, Dr. Carla Guiducci Bonanni as Secretary and Treasurer, and has drawn up a plan of publication as set down in the following Sections

Section 1
Coordination:  Francesco Paolo Casavola
“The Romanistic groundwork. Writings on Roman history and law”
(2 projected volumes for a total of 1600 pages)
In this section are collected the works relating to Giorgio La Pira’s scientific activities in the context of Roman Law, and date from the period 1926-1946.
Integral parts of this section are the exchanges of letters with Salvatore Pugliatti and Emilio Betti.

Section 2
Coordination:  Ugo De Siervo
“The building of the Constitution. Writings on politics and constitutional law”
(2 projected volumes for a total of 1200 pages)
In this section are collected the writings relating to Giorgio La Pira’s scientific and political activities beginning with the review “Principi” (1939-1940), which opposed the Fascist dictatorship, continuing with those dealing with the problems of the State in the years 1944-45, and including his contributions as a member of the Constituent Assembly and the Committee for the Constitution within that Assembly.
Also destined for this section is the orderly publication of La Pira’s speeches in the Assembly, based on manuscripts preserved in the archives of the Foundation, which will enable the reconstruction of the debates which took place in the Committee for the Constitution, making it possible to compare them with the brief summaries already published.
Integral parts of this section are the exchanges of letters with Giuseppe Dossetti and Fioretta Mazzei.

Section 3
Coordination:  Pierluigi Ballini and Giulio Conticelli
“The city and the human being. Social and administrative writings”
(3 projected volumes for a total of 2300 pages)
In this section are collected the writings related to La Pira’s activities as Under-Secretary of Labour and above all as Mayor of Florence. Integral parts of this section are the exchanges of letters with Amintore Fanfani and Giovanni Gronchi.
Also planned for this section is a generous selection of La Pira’s speeches in the Municipal Council of Florence and a study of the innovations brought to bear on the discussions of the administration in relation to the Constitution and to its influence on local government actions.

Section 4
Coordination: Giorgio Gaja and Mario Primicerio
“Peace and the new international order. Writings on international relationships”
(2 projected volumes for a total of 1000 pages)
In this section are collected the writings related to the promotion of peace, starting with the conferences in the European sphere and the important contributions of the Mediterranean Colloquies. La Pira’s contributions on the subjects of disarmament, decolonization and international order will be documented together with correspondence with various Heads of State, preserved in the Archives of the Foundation.

Section 5
Coordination: Francesco Adorno, Silvano Nistri, Andrea Riccardi
“The believer and the Church. Writings on the religious and ecclesiastical life”
(2 projected volumes for a total of 1000 pages)
In this section are collected the writings related to Giorgio La Pira’s religious thinking and his commitment to ecumenism between the Christian churches and for a dialogue with Judaism and Islam.
Integral parts of this section are the exchanges of letters with popes.
